Stress-test. Analyze banks!

In the US and now the EU, authorities want to see if the banking departments are capitalized accordingly to defeating the crisis and the economy, thirsty to resume banking activities, will experience growth again. What are the so-called stress-tests trying to figure out but also what they absolutely cannot  make clear, up next. The European Union will carry out a series of stress-tests to its banking system in order to establish if it can face the financial crisis and determine if it is capitalized appropiately. The stress tests will be carried on by national authorities and will end in September. “The decision was made by the Finance Ministers in the EU. They have asked the supervising committee of the European banking system (CEBS) to organize a stress test”, has declared a source, cited by Reuters. However, they add that “these are not tests for individual institutions, like the Americans perform them. It is more like a collective test that should indicate the strength of the Eu banking system on its whole.” The results of the test should point out whether the banks need additional capital or they are sufficienlty capitalized. In the US, the results of stress tests, carried on by authorities on 19 of the American greatest banks (that gather two thirds of the sector’s total dues and half of the credits) show that 10 credit institutions need an additional capital of 74.6 billion dollars in order to protect themselves against possible amplifications of the crisis.
